Don’t let a forgotten PSN password keep you out of the fun

To use your PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, or PlayStation Network, you need a valid email account and password. However, if you forget the password, it is almost a puzzle to figure out how to reset it. Here is a step-by-step guide to changing your PlayStation Network (PSN) password on various devices.

You will need access to the email address you use to log into PSN and a separate device, such as a smartphone or computer, to verify that email. Also, if you want to reset your password and are already logged in, you will need to log out first.

How to change your PSN password?

You may still be able to remember your password, but you want to change it as a security measure.

If you have been using the same password for multiple profiles, you could be at risk. After an account is compromised, the best way to make sure the hack doesn’t spread is by changing the passwords on the other platforms you use regularly.

To change a password you already know, head to your PS4’s main home screen again, using your controller to navigate.

  • Click Settings.
  • Click Account Management.
  • Click Account Information.
  • Click on Security.
  • Click on Password.
  • Enter and confirm your new password.
  • Click Continue.

If you have a problem with your console, don’t worry: you can also reset your password on the Playstation website. Navigate to the site and follow these instructions.

  • Go to the login page in Account Management.
  • Click Problems Signing In?
  • Click Reset your password.

  • Enter your new password.

Reset your PSN login ID

Your PSN account is linked to a login ID; this is the email address associated with the profile. It is important to be able to access this email because you will need it if you want to reset your PSN password.

Follow these simple steps to reset your login ID on the Playstation website.

  • Click Account Management and Settings.
  • Click Account Information.
  • Click Login ID and enter your current password.
  • Enter a new login ID (make sure you have access to this email account).
  • Click Confirm.
  • A link will be sent to this email address. When you arrive, click the link to verify your login ID.

Password security

Losing your password is a hassle, but being cracked by hackers is even worse. That is why it is essential to protect your login credentials on all platforms.

A great way to do this is with a password manager, like WordPress. With this service, you can generate random login details, which can be stored in encrypted vaults. This will make online accounts and profiles much more secure.

Best of all, you never have to worry about forgetting your own password again — NordPass remembers it for you, with a secure auto-fill feature.

From social media to the PS4, being online can be a portal out of everyday life — don’t let a password get in your way.

Reset PSN password without email

Currently, there are two ways to reset the PSN password. One is directly through your PS4 and another is through the web browser on the official PlayStation site. However, both require your original email and password.

If it’s just the password you’re looking for, just click reset and choose a new one. However, if you do not know your email address or can no longer access it, you will need to contact Sony.

The only other way to reset your PlayStation Network password is to contact customer service. This is so they can verify your identity and ask you some security questions.

Problems resetting a PSN password

Is the email in your spam folder?

Check your email inbox to make sure you search all mailboxes for “Sony”, including junk or spam folders.

Did you enter the wrong email address?

Repeat the steps to reset your password and make sure the email address shown in the “Forgot your password?” screen is the email address you use to log into your account.
